SKU: Cellar Door Release Meunier Cuvée 2014

A rare single-varietal sparkling expressing the exotic and generous character of Meunier. This is our fourth release of a sparkling wine made from this limited variety, following the 2004 and 2008 vintages, and limited edition Chandon Cygnet Pinot Meunier Rosé 2014.

Wine Profile
Yellow gold colour with very fine bubbles and persistent mousse. Evocative and charming, with aromas of mirabelle plums, freshly baked shortcrust tarte aux prunes, and ripe apricots supported by delicate almond bread and pastry notes. The palate is generous and softly fruity, the “stone fruit ripened in sunshine” characters shine through. Fine bubbles and long, zesty acidity complete the picture. Ideal late summer picnic drinking.
A season full of promise with good soil moisture and excellent bud burst soon turned challenging with the untimely arrival of cold, wet and windy conditions in September during flowering. This resulted in fewer bunches setting and a reduced crop for many growers. Good weather favoured the remaining crop from October to December. January arrived with warm summer conditions and a few hot days to challenge the grapes but overall good soil moisture and a strong, vibrant canopy permitted steady ripening under fantastic conditions. What had been a challenging season for quantity turned to great optimism for exceptional quality. Cool nights and bright sunny days allowed for the development of flavour and maturity. Beautiful fruit with intensity, freshness and abundant natural acidity was the result.
Grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness, when sugar, acidity, flavour and maturity all came together. By machine harvesting and direct pressing, pure and fine cuvée juice was quickly run-off with minimal oxidation. Cold fermentation followed, leading to wines with bright fruit characters and delightful acidity. Base wine parcels were then carefully blended to achieve balance and complexity in this delightful wine. Secondary fermentation then took place in bottle, as per the méthode traditionnelle, and extended ageing on yeast lees prior to disgorgement. This wine has been aged for 36 months prior to disgorging.
Food Pairing Notes
Freshly baked apricot tarte; Chicken breast wrapped with prosciutto; Salted roasted macadamia nuts.
Other Notes
Grapes were sourced from our estate vineyards at the Whitlands Plateau and Strathbogie Ranges, and here at our Green Point vineyard in the Yarra Valley. At a range of altitudes from 80m to 820m elevation respectively, the location of these vineyards brings cool nights, allowing the slow development of flavours while retaining terrific natural acidity.
