Made using fine base wines and the addition of red Pinot Noir colour, Vintage Brut Rosé 2014 is a wine for Pinot Noir lovers and people who enjoy the balance of finesse and complexity on offer in a Rosé sparkling. With Chandon Vintage Brut Rosé we represent three elements in this wine which lie at the centre of winemaking at Chandon – the beautiful vineyard resources we have in Australia, the diverse personality of each unique season, and the complexity drawn from méthode traditionnelle.

Wine Profile
TASTING NOTES
Delicate rose petal pink in colour. Prominent Pinot Noir characters of cherry, dark plum and subtle spice, with a suggestion of patisserie from extended lees contact. Palate continues the theme of cherry and plum, tightly wound acidity, and a finishing clip of textural tannins. Generously flavoured and long, with a lasting impression of Pinot Noir flavours.
VINEYARD
Grapes were selected from cool climate vineyards in the Whitlands Plateau, Strathbogie Ranges and the Yarra Valley. Outstanding sites in the Yarra Valley provide the Pinot Noir for fermentation on skins that adds depth of flavour, red fruit intensity and a beautiful hue that immediately appeals to the eye. Vertically trained canopies on red soils all contribute to the depth, concentration and character of this Rosé sparkling.
WINE MAKING
Harvest began in mid-March at Strathbogie and a little later in the more elevated Whitlands Plateau. The Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier grapes from each site were pressed and fermented separately to ensure the unique characteristics of each parcel of fruit were retained. Each individual cuvée was then selected for its diverse varietal flavours, balanced structure and palate length – all essential for the Chandon Vintage Brut Rosé style. Following tirage and secondary fermentation, Chandon Vintage Brut Rosé 2014 spent over 36 months ageing on yeast, an essential part of the méthode traditionnelle process.
Food Pairing Notes
Grilled swordfish; School prawn karaage; Fish tacos.
Other Notes
A season full of promise with good soil moisture and excellent bud burst soon turned challenging with the untimely arrival of cold, wet and windy conditions in September during flowering. This resulted in fewer bunches setting and a reduced crop for many growers. Good weather favoured the remaining crop from October to December. January arrived with warm summer conditions and a few hot days to challenge the grapes but overall good soil moisture and a strong, vibrant canopy permitted steady ripening under fantastic conditions. What had been a challenging season for quantity turned to great optimism for exceptional quality. Cool nights and bright sunny days allowed for the development of flavour and maturity. Beautiful fruit with intensity, freshness and abundant natural acidity was the result.
